Mercedes-Benz Hyper Blue Magno Touch-Up Paint – 964 / 5964

Hyper Blue Magno is Mercedes-Benz paint code 964, also written 5964, a matte blue from the AMG range. Each bottle holds 0.41 fl oz of exact-match paint for rock chips, door-edge scratches and small blemishes. This colour is sold as paint on its own — there is no repair kit option for 964.

Confirm Your Paint Code First

The paint code is printed on a sticker, most often on the driver-side door jamb, and on many cars also under the hood. This paint is 964 — the sticker should read 964 or 5964. German paperwork and service records write the same colour as Hyperblau Magno.

Magno is Mercedes’ designation for a matte finish, and it changes what a repair has to get right. On a gloss panel the colour is the hard part and the sheen takes care of itself. On a Magno panel it is the other way round — the eye reads the difference in sheen long before it reads a difference in colour.

That also removes your safety net. A repair on gloss paint can be levelled, polished and blended afterwards. Matte paint cannot: polishing, buffing or waxing burnishes the surface and leaves a shiny patch that does not come back out. Read the code off the jamb sticker rather than going by eye, and if it does not say 964 or 5964, this is not your paint.

Which Mercedes Use Hyper Blue Magno

964 is an AMG colour rather than a range-wide one. It tracked the AMG GT and the compact AMG cars rather than the sedans, the SUV line or the vans, and Magno finishes were a paid option on top of that — so the cars wearing it are a small subset of a small subset.

We do not publish a year-by-year model table on paint. Sources disagree about exactly which model years carried 964, and a wrong year here does not cost you a returned part — it costs you a repair you cannot polish back off. The door jamb sticker settles it: if it reads 964 or 5964, this is your colour.

How to Apply

Matte paint is less forgiving than gloss at every stage, so work smaller and slower than you would on a normal panel.

  1. Wash and dry the area. Car soap and water, rinsed, then dried completely. Paint will not bond through road film. Use a plain shampoo — wash products containing wax or gloss enhancers should not go near a Magno panel.
  2. Clean inside the chip. Wipe it with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth. Wax and polish collect in the bottom of a chip where washing never reaches, and that residue is the most common reason a touch-up lifts months later. Let the solvent flash off completely before going further.
  3. Pick away loose edges. If paint is flaking around the rim, lift it with a toothpick. Paint over a loose edge and the repair fails at that edge.
  4. Shake until you hear the mixing ball move. Thirty seconds is usually enough. Then twist the cap open and work the first paint out onto a piece of card until the brush flows evenly. Never load the brush over the car — the first stroke usually floods.
  5. Dab, don’t drag. Touch the brush to the centre of the chip and let the paint flow outward on its own. Keep the repair inside the damage — paint that spreads onto good matte paint cannot be wiped back once it has started to flash. On very small chips, transfer a bead onto a toothpick and place it instead.
  6. Build thin layers, stopping just below flush. Several thin coats beat one thick one. Finish a fraction below the surrounding surface rather than above it.
  7. Do not level, polish or buff the repair afterwards. This is the step that differs most from a gloss panel. Abrasives and polish burnish matte paint and leave a shiny patch that cannot be undone. Leave the repair as it dries.
  8. Leave at least 4 hours between coats.

Work in shade on a cool panel, ideally between 50°F and 90°F and out of direct sun. Hot metal flashes the solvent off too fast and leaves a rough, textured edge.
