Frequently Asked Questions

Is this one filter or two?

Two. These engines use a filter element on each side of the airbox, and aFe sells this part number as a pair. You're getting the complete set.

Do I need a tune?

No. These drop into the factory housing and the car runs on the stock calibration exactly as it did before. Nothing about this filter requires a tune.

How do I clean and re-oil them?

Use a proper filter cleaning kit — never gasoline or caustic cleaners. Rinse with low-pressure tap water, let the filter air dry completely, then apply oil sparingly along the peaks, keeping about half an inch clear of the frame edges. Give the oil 45 minutes to spread before refitting. Do not use compressed air or heat to speed up drying.

Can over-oiling affect my MAF sensor?

It can on any oiled cotton filter, which is why we'd rather say it up front. These ship correctly oiled from aFe and need nothing before install. The risk only comes in later, if you re-oil heavily after cleaning. Apply it thinly and evenly and you'll have no issues.

How hard is the install?

Ten minutes. Open the airbox, lift out the paper elements, drop these in, close it up. No tools beyond what opens the housing, no cutting, no modification.
