Headers are the single biggest breathing upgrade on the naturally aspirated M273 — but the factory ECU doesn’t know they’re there. A custom M273 tune adjusts timing and fuelling to the improved exhaust flow, recovering the rest of the power the headers make possible and sharpening throttle response.

While The Exhaust Is Off

Header installation already has the exhaust apart and the car on a lift. These are the jobs worth doing in the same visit rather than paying the labour twice:

• 24″ O2 sensor extension harness — headers move the rear (post-cat) oxygen sensors away from the factory harness. Plug-in extension, no splicing. You will need two.
• M273 X-Pipe — replaces the restrictive secondary cats downstream of the headers. Headers and X-pipe together open the whole exhaust path instead of moving the restriction further back.
• K&N 33-2181 high-flow air filters — the M273 takes two. Freeing up the exhaust side without addressing the intake side leaves gains on the table.
• Intake manifold air flap repair kit — fixes P2004 / P2005 / P2006. A very common M273 fault, and far easier to address while you are already under the hood.
