🔧 How the Process Works
- Complete your purchase and provide your vehicle details / ECU build date if known.
- We confirm whether your MG1CP002 is flashable or requires a mail-in bench unlock.
- If an unlock is required, we arrange the mail-in process and unlock the ECU.
- You (or we) read the stock file and send it to us.
- Your custom calibration is built and returned for flashing (OBD or unlocked bench).
Tuning support remains available if your hardware changes later or revisions are needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my ECU needs a mail-in unlock?
MG1CP002 ECUs built roughly before June 2020 are typically flashable via OBD. Builds after ~June 2020 usually require a bench unlock first. We verify this for every order before proceeding.
Which ECUs are not supported?
MG1CP003, MRG3, MRG4, and MRG1PI are not supported. This tune is exclusively for the MG1CP002 (MRG1) used on the M256 3.0T.
Will the tune resolve check engine lights from downpipes?
Yes. The calibration is written around catless hardware when selected, so the fault codes the downpipes would otherwise set are resolved at the calibration level. We do not use or recommend defeat devices.
Is the M256 tune safe on stock internals and stock cooling?
Yes. We tune within the capabilities of the M256 platform and keep all factory safety systems (knock, thermal, torque monitoring) active so the engine stays protected.
Do I need supporting mods before getting the tune?
No. Many customers start with just the tune. Adding downpipes, intake, or improved cooling simply unlocks more of the platform’s potential. We can revise the map after any hardware changes.
Can I install downpipes before the tune?
Yes. The car will run with the hardware installed, but you will likely set a check engine light until the custom calibration is applied.
