Mercedes Steering Wheel Button Trim Stickers — Black or Silver

Moulded ABS overlays that cover the multifunction buttons on a Mercedes steering wheel. They exist because of a specific, very common failure: the soft-touch coating on these buttons goes sticky, then peels, then rubs the icons off entirely. It is a cosmetic fault on an otherwise perfect wheel, and the factory answer is a new steering wheel.

These sit over the existing buttons rather than replacing them. The switch underneath keeps working exactly as it did — you are covering a worn surface, not repairing a circuit.

  • Choose black or silver
  • Moulded ABS, not vinyl film
  • Pre-applied adhesive
  • No tools, no disassembly
  • Buttons stay fully functional
  • Heat and UV resistant

Which finish?

Black

Matches the standard black button surrounds fitted to most cars in this range. The safe default, and the closer match if your wheel is all-black.

Silver

Brushed-look finish that picks up the silver trim used on AMG and higher-spec interiors. Choose this if your existing button surrounds already have a bright edge.

Same part, same fitment, same install — the only difference is the finish. Pick from the option above the Add to cart button.

Fitment

The W166 and X166 rows are the cars Mercedes later renamed GLE and GLS — same chassis, same wheel, same part. Listed under both names because owners search both.

Check your wheel before ordering. Mercedes used more than one button layout across these years, and the overlay has to match the arrangement on your wheel, not just the badge on your car. Take a photo of your steering wheel controls and send it over with your VIN — we will confirm the layout matches before you buy.

Installation

Clean each button face with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry fully — the adhesive will not hold over the residue that caused the peeling in the first place. Peel the backing, line the overlay up on the button, then press and hold for a few seconds. Work one button at a time. The whole set takes about ten minutes and nothing comes apart.

Do not use the wheel controls for a couple of hours afterwards while the adhesive sets. If a piece sits crooked, lift it straight away rather than after it has cured.

What you get

  • Full overlay set for the steering wheel multifunction buttons, in your chosen finish
  • Moulded ABS with pre-applied automotive adhesive
  • Heat and moisture resistant for long-term interior use

Newer Car? You Want the Other Set

This set covers the 2011–2016 wheels. Mercedes changed the button arrangement partway through the decade, so a 2017 GLE and a 2013 ML do not take the same overlay even though both are W166. If your car sits in the later range — GLA from 2017, CLA and GLE from 2015, GLS and SL from 2016 — the silver set below is the one cut for it.
