Confirm It With the Old Cap

These cars are between seven and twenty-five years old, and cap design changed partway through several platforms — so the year chart above narrows it, but the part itself settles it. Unscrew your existing cap and read the number moulded into the plastic. If it reads 2214700605, A2214700605 or 221 470 06 05, this is your part. On a car this age the number is often still crisp even when the rubber seal has gone hard. If the cap is missing or the moulding has worn away, send us your VIN and we will confirm before you order.

Installation

Two minutes, no tools. Unscrew the old cap, wipe the filler neck and check the sealing face for grit or a cracked lip, then thread the new cap on and turn until it clicks. On these older cars also check the tether anchor in the fuel door — the original strap goes brittle and is usually what broke first. EVAP-related check engine lights typically clear on their own after several drive cycles, or immediately with a scanner.
